Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic (the), Chad, China, Comoros (the), Congo (the), Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Lao People's Democratic Republic (the), Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Niger (the), Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines (the), Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan (the), Togo, Turkey, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania (the), Viet Nam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe. This number increased to 59 with independence of Timor-Leste in 2002 and South Sudan in 2011.

The map shows the 52 countries that have been validated for maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) elimination since 2000 (green), as well as the seven countries where MNT remains a public health problem and elimination has not yet been achieved (red): Afghanistan, Angola, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, and Yemen.
